A group of six people who have undergone sex reassignment surgeries (SRSs),
generally known as sex-change
operations, will file civil suits May 24 seeking to have their
new genders recorded on their family registrations, an activist
supporting transsexuals people said Saturday.
They will be the first lawsuits of their kind since sex-change operations SRSs officially began in Japan three years ago.

身体的性別に強い違和感を抱く性同一性障害の治療として、埼玉医大（埼玉県川越市）で性再指定手術（いわゆる性転換手術）を受けた当事者ら６人が２４日、戸籍の性別の訂正を各地の家裁に一斉に申し立てることを５日までに決めた。
手術で性器が変わり、新しい性で暮らし始めても、戸籍の性別が元のままでは、就職など日常生活が困難なため。三年前に国内で始まった正式な性転換 性再指定手術の経験者が戸籍の性別訂正を求めるのは初めてで、裁判所の判断が注目される。
＃ いつも思うことなんですけど，日本のマスメディアにも， 赤字 のような「政治的に正しい (politically correct) 」表現を使ってほしいものです。もうそろそろ「性転換(sex change)」は勘弁して欲しいです（記事の最初ではしかたないけど，2回目以降は言い換えるべき）。また，transsexualを名詞で使う用法もうんざりです。transだって人間なのだから，trans(sexual) people or person(s)にすべきです。なお，タイトルはいじってません。
